This season the Fort Stockton Prowlers are off to a good start with wins over the Kermit Yellow Jackets, Odessa High Mustangs and McCamey Badgers. With new coaches, teamwork, and new talent out on the court, the Prowlers will already be one step ahead of the competition.

The upcoming schedule is set with games against Crane, Alpine, Coahoma and Greenwood.
“I think our toughest competition will be Greenwood,” senior Gabby Gonzales said.

The Prowlers will be participating in five tournaments before the end of the year 2011: Coahoma, Greenwood, Comstock, Ozona and Iraan.

“The competition this year is not going to be easy, but what fun would it be without a challenge?” Gonzales said.

Coach Vic Ivy returned as head varsity coach.

“I believe that we are going to be a competitive basketball team this year,” he said.

The girl’s basketball program has gained two new coaches, Kennith Jaggars and Yvonne Vasquez. Together this year’s coaches will teach the team discipline, to work hard, and to learn to compete as a team to accomplish the goals they have in mind.

“I believe one of the teams strength will be their chemistry,” Ivy said.

This year is full of changes both on and off the court. Coaches are trying new ideas during practice and drills during games.

“Defense always gives you a chance to win a game,” Ivy said.

The team may agree and disagree with some of the changes, but they have faith in their coaches that will hopefully lead them to a year of great accomplishments.

“This basketball season, I’m leaving it all on the court with no regrets,” Gonzales said.
