As the weather gets colder, it gets even better to lift iron in the morning and prepare for powerlift- ing.The Panthers and Prowlers both work hard in the weight room to get stronger and in shape.

Many have goals this year such, as Junior Hector Ontiveros.

“My goal is to make it to state this year and try to be the strongest 181 lb. in the state of Texas,” he said.
Some athletes are joining for the first time this year. Junior Devan Hernandez had many things to say about her feelings toward powerlifting.

“I am actually very anxious about powerlifting con- sidering it will be my first year competing,” she said. “Other than that, I am very thrilled for powerlifting, and I honestly do believe that I will progress through- out this year, especially in athletics.”

The Panthers and Prowlers work hard in the weight room so they can get stronger and place in powerlifting meets against different schools and achieve dominance over them.

Although the first meet isn’t until after Christmas break, the team has been practicing to get ahead and where they need to be for competition time.

Many participants did really well last year, as many made it to regionals and some even state.
Senior Katie Tavarez was one determined lifter who achieved her goals and made it to state. She has set her goals for the new season.

“My goal this year is to not only make it to state again, but to place higher than what I did last year.” she said.“I will work to become stronger, and I won’t be satisfied until I do so.”
